Please provide us enough information for optimal planning of the
whole
test. Data such as size of your active component area, number of
samples
under test at the same time is very important for preparation of the
proton
beam, collimators and shielding. This with the total number of
components
to be tested, required energies and doses allows to prepare the
best
test procedure and minimize the required beam time.
Please consider making use of the standard sample
holder. It allows for
fast and easy mounting of your device (board, plate, chip etc.) on the
beam
and setting its position. Don't hesitate to contact us if you need any
assistance.
The length of cables between test
area and control barrack equals to ca. 30 m.
User can either bring its own cables or use some of existing cables for
their
connections. Typically we provide some BNC and HV cables as well as RS232
D25 and RJ49 twisted pair connections.
There is also a possibility to remotely control user's PC located in the test
site
from the control barrack using Monitor/Mouse/Keyboard extender or another
PC with suitable software installed (PCanywhere or VNC).
Nominal parameters are 220 V, 50 Hz with Swiss
type of plugs and sockets.
Please inform us in advance if we should provide interfaces between Swiss
and other 'European' types of sockets. It will also be helpful to bring socket-
boards with yourself in order to plug your devices.
It is natural that all materials exposed to protons will be
activated and
for certain time cannot be taken out of the radiation controlled
area.
You can help to shorten the storing and activity decay period you
by
optimizing your test setup:
- minimize the irradiated area of the device under test
e.g. use masks and collimators that can be de-attached from
rest.
- expose to protons as little of the material bulk as
possible
e.g. leave the space behind the tested device empty.
- Use low Z materials whenever possible
e.g. take plexiglas instead of Aluminum
Radiation Control After Test
Proton exposed devices must be controlled by PSI Health Physicists
after
completion of the test. Without it, no items are allowed to be removed
outside
the radiation zone. Health Physicists are available during normal
working hours
from Monday to Friday (8:00 to 17:00).
Please look at How
to order beam time for information about shipment and customs.
